Recruitment and Retention – from project to process!

Later this year, the Centre for Rural Medicine in Storuman, Sweden, will assume responsibility for recruitment of frontline health-care providers and other key positions in the rural part of Västerbotten. This is a joint investment between Västerbotten County Council and the surrounding municipalities, and the foundation for the work will be the “Remote Rural Workforce Stability Framework” developed by Recruit and Retain – Making it Work.

With two recent investments, “Recruit & Retain” funded by Interreg Northern Periphery Programme and the current “Recruit & Retain – Making it Work” funded through Interreg Northern Periphery and Arctic Programme, organisations in the rural areas have now gained the capacity to manage their own recruitment and retention initiatives. This systemic change means that organisations, such as Centre for Rural Medicine in Storuman, have the capacity to recruit health care staff and other key positions to their local community. With the help of Recruit and Retain – Making it Work, rural Sweden has transformed the work of recruitment and retention from project activities into a process coordinated from a rural perspective start to finish. Dr. Peter Berggren, Operation Manager at Centre for Rural Medicine in Storuman, states: “It is clear that seven years of partnership has been fruitful, and we look forward to sharing more about our success”.This project outcome is clearly contributing to the vision of Interreg Northern Periphery and Arctic Programme. The Swedish partnership will use the final forum of Recruit and Retain – Making it Work to kick off this process.
