NHS Highland Health Board teamed with Portree Job Centre (Skye) to hold a job Fayre in January.
Making it Work Scottish team members Claire Savage and Anne Mason, joined staff from NHS Highland’s HR Division to attend the Careers Fayre at Portree Job Centre In on the Isle of Skye.
Despite horrendous weather it exceeded everyone’s expectations with with 30 members of the public visiting the the job centre to ask about health and social care vacancies/careers. The excellent advertising of the event supported through NHS Highland Communications team was influential in such a good turnout.
Those attending were invited to complete a short survey about the event. Some members of the public stated that they had not considered a health or social care job prior to attending this fayre because they thought their skills or qualifications were inadequate. Others had negative views about NHS Highland which had put them off seeking work with NHS Highland. Meeting health and social care professionals face to face at the job centre helped them realise their suitability for a job/career in health or social care and offered a more positive image of NHS Highland and Highland Regional Council as a potential employer. Overall the day was rated very good by the staff who were able to attend, who very pleased with the calibre of potential candidates and hope to run such an event again.
